Big Bucket Software you like to use
Music with Ableton Live
December 17th, 2005

Apologies for the lack of updates lately, I’ve been distracted by – stuff. Mostly music.

So I figured, why not just blog my distractions as well? Why shouldn’t music fit into the Big Bucket? So here I go…

I’ve been playing with Ableton Live lately, I still don’t quite get it, but its certainly very interesting. The live aspect of it is very well done and very easy to catch onto, but so far it appears to be very loop based. The whole ‘clip’ idea is very interesting, but there are few things that I’m trying to do…

First up is glitch edits. I was hoping Ableton would have some innovative new way to perform glitch edits. The Beat Repeat tool is very interesting, but a bit too random for me. Still, very much a first impression. I have seen some tutorials on the net like this one but I’m really looking for ways play a loop, and automate when it should grab the bit being played and loop over it at 1/32, 1/64 or what not… and I was hoping to do it without a plugin.

There’s a track that I was remixing a while back, maybe I should pull out the sources for that, Ableton seems to be designed for that kind of work. We’ll see how it goes.
