TV Forecast aftermath
March 8th, 2007

Well, the response to the TV Forecast widget has been fantastic. With more than 10,000 downloads, it is the 2nd most downloaded dashboard widget from the Apple dashboard site. Thankyou everyone for your ideas and suggestions, I will be taking many of them on board for a future release.

Before then, though, I have another dashboard widget in the works that will be released shortly after I get my Powerbook back from my local Apple reseller – unfortunately it’s logic board needs replacing. One evening, after booting it up, I was greeted with this terrible message. It wasn’t the first time either. I have already had my logic board replaced to address this exact issue. Last time it happened it was a simple matter of dropping the machine in, having it diagnosed, taking it home and returning it when the replacement part arrived. Nowadays though, the store’s policy is to not allows customers to take their machines home while they are waiting on parts from Apple. Let me tell you, this is an enormous pain. I mean, c’mon, how can I work on my PC!?

  • Had the same problem when I had to have my potentially exploding battery replaced in the powerbook which they estimated would take 6-8 weeks! (yes I know I shouldnt have been using the battery anyway). Rang a second store and they didn’t have such a policy.

  • For some reason, I cannot seem to get my TV forecast widget to find any shows when I search for them. Is there something I’m doing wrong, or do I need to do an update? Perhaps I’m just not quite adept enough at dashboard to figure it out. I love your idea!!

  • Sure, at first glance, it looks amazing, but there are a few problems. One, it should show what channel it will be broadcasted on (you can set what provider you have), and you should make the show timing accurate. I went to check what time Hu$tle is on, and it said 9:00. That is the time that is on in central US. Can you fix these bugs? I would not want to have to go back to TV tracker (which doesn’t load right). Please get us an update! Also, I want to get the timing for the new show “Hazard Pay”. It is on the Discovery channel. Hope you get it all sorted out! I wouldn’t want to miss any shows that had improper timing!

@Lomoco: All good points. Please read my most recent post regarding timezone functionality in (the soon to be released) TV Forecast 2.2. Hopefully this will address your concerns.
