Big Bucket Software you like to use
Timezone in TV Forecast 2.2
May 13th, 2007

TV Forecast development has been steaming ahead lately so I thought I’d take a moment to explain what is in store for 2.2.

With regard to timezone correction, the major hurdle has been the cater to the variety of different locations that TV shows are broadcast from. With regard to the US, it is not uncommon for some people to be getting an eastern feed of show A and a pacific feed of show B. Outside of the US, some users have been trying to add shows from Australia and the UK amongst others. It pretty quickly becomes obvious that while adjusting air time from local to eastern time may suit a lot of you, it certainly doesn’t suit everyone. All of these issues are being addressed in 2.2. Here’s how.

Timezone Feature
Let’s say that you’re a fan of both Heroes and Lost and that in your area, Heroes comes off an eastern feed and Lost comes of a Pacific feed. Notice the new Timezone button beside each show in Your TV Shows? Clicking this will reveal two dropdowns that allow you to specify the broadcast continent and city. By default, all shows are set to New York, (eastern). However in this hypothetical situation, Lost will need to be adjusted. Click the city, switch it to San Francisco and you’re done! The air time for Lost will now be adjusted to Pacific time.

There is still some work to be done before it is ready for final release but I thought I’d reveal a little bit of what’s in store.

Matt, this widget is AMAZING! But at work, they only have PCs. I don’t suppose you could port this to a Yahoo! Widget, could you? Then it could be used on both Windows and Mac platforms. Would be VERY useful.

  • Yes, this looks much more promising. Oh, and thanks for making it freeware! Love it! Much better than TV tracker. Will the same go for the TV countdown widget?

  • Wonderful! I was just thinking to request something like this, and here it is! I watch a lot of shows that air at different times on different continents, and some are even on different seasons on different continents, so this will be great!

@JuryDuty: Someone I work with keeps asking me the same thing! I have been contemplating a Yahoo! Widget port – when the latest round of updates settle down I’ll look into it further.
    @Lomoco: Yes, absolutely.

  • Matt,

Great widget but just one thing: Studio 60 on The Sunset Strip came up as ‘Series Ended’ but there are remaining episodes.

The first airs this Thursday at 10 PM EST/PST.

    Just thought you should know.

But thankZ for this widget which is MUCH then TV Wiper or whatever that Yahoo widget was called!

    Michael

I love your TVForecast Widget. But have found it’s not always accurate. i.e. The last six Studio 60 episodes start this Thursday, but all the widget says is Show Canceled. Yes, I know the show has not been renewed for a second season. Which is why I’m so desperate not to miss the final episodes of season 1.

Aside from that, I LOVE the widget!

@Michael Zuccaro & @nitejrny282: I see the problem – TV.com reports the series as having ended but still displays air times for the remaining episodes. I will be releasing an update to correct this problem very shortly. Thank you both for bringing the bug to my attention.
