Big Bucket Software you like to use
iPhone TV Forecast coming soon
July 18th, 2007

I’m sure many of you saw it coming – TV Forecast is being developed for the iPhone. Neven Mrgan was kind enough to test it out for me and send me some photos. I can’t tell you how exciting it was to see it running on the device.

I never thought the conversion from widget to web app was going to be easy; sure, it’s still just “Javascript, CSS and HTML” but it’s now running on a whole new platform! For example, the Javascript screen scraping had to be moved to PHP due to a (security related) restriction of the XmlHttpRequest object. In most (all?) web browsers, an XmlHttpRequest can’t be made to any server other than the one from where the request originates. This screen scraping of third parties (like TV.com) fairly tricky. There are a few techniques I could have employed but in the end decided that moving the scraping server side was probably the cleanest solution.

Enough tech talk! I’ll be releasing the iPhone version of TV Forecast in beta soon so be sure to stay tuned.

    Awesome!

But…sigh…still waiting for that port to Yahoo! Widgets or some other platform that will allow us to also use it on our Windows computers, too. 🙂

@JuryDuty: The new iPhone version works in any decent browser. Sure it’s not a Yahoo widget, but it’s something 🙂

    Cool! I love it! Now…

It seems that would be easy enough to port to an Google content for a person’s homepage, wouldn’t it?

You’ve really got something great here. I’ll be using this one, but would love a version for my own Google home page so it’s always there when I fire up my browser. Looking forward to more! 🙂
